When you wake up with stretched natural hair (that’s all over your head!) you may be at a loss for ideas, as well as words. You can’t believe that you– yes, you!– can wake up like this.

You’re strapped for time and you’re now forced to make the decision to apply more heat to your hair, risking damage or just tuck it away and be done! You don’t want to just toss it up into a messy bun, and honestly, your scalp is a little dry due to the blow dryer and cold winter air.

When I notice my hair drying, I immediately turn to protective styling to wrap those ends like an Egyptian mummy. In a curly state I’d probably opt for a set of mini-twists, but since my hair is straight I considered a faux-hawk.

I opted to braid up the sides in a cute little pattern, and had a middle section just blowing in the wind. That didn’t look as polished and as put together as I wanted, so I worked through some Optimum Oil Therapy 3-in-1 Cream Oil Moisturizer and loosely french rolled the back upward and the front into a cute Janelle Monae-esq pompadour. Now I look Primp + Proper for work and my hair can have a break from styling and better retain moisture.

It looks like even actress Regina King was feeling my idea! lol

To switch things up, in a couple of days I’ll probably braid it up at night for a wavy look in the center!

When your hair feels dry, how do you restore moisture!?
