DMV champion, rapper Wale, made history this weekend with a pop-up concert to celebrate the release of his first no. 1 Billboard Top 200 EP, “The Album About Nothing.” The Seinfeld-inspired album is Wale’s fourth studio album, and dropped this Tuesday amid industry staples like Ludacris. However, #TAAN was a true standout, and fans showed up to drive that point home.

What better way to commemorate this honor than with his entire city behind him?! Events DC coordinated The Concert About Nothing in conjunction with DC.gov, the Washington, DC Economic Partnership, Rock the Vote, Trillectro, Uber, &pizza and Ben’s Chili Bowl.

All ages, genders and ethnicities were represented– vivdly illustrating the diverse, and loyal following of the 30-year-old rapper.

With the help of his Slutty Boyz family, rappers Phil Adé and Fat Trel, producer Tone P and his A-1 since day 1, Tre of UCB, Wale was able to take us on a musical journey spanning his 9-year career. (Have you heard the go-go song “Sexy Lady?” That’s Tre.)

He kicked off the show with MMG Under God, Slight Work, Pretty Girls and then brought out his posse for Bait, Lotus Flower Bomb, Ambition, Bad, The Body and Clappers. He ended the 2-hour long show with No Hands!

Needless to say #TheConcertAboutNothing was LIT! You could tell that Wale was proud, and he gave a show of gratitude. Dancing around beating his feet in fresh Nike Foamposites, he owned the stage joining the band by playing the congos and singing along drunk to Girls on Drugs.

With a black Sharpie, Wale signed each shoe and threw them individually into the crowd. &pizza also gave away free pizzas, while the Slutty Boyz threw a stack of $1 bills into the crowd.

The Concert About Nothing was truly a celebration, not only for Wale’s accomplishment, but what he represents for the dreamers of D.C.
