On Sunday, October 6, 2013, rapper RAtheMC, Marlee in the Mixx and Future Band headlined TheBobbyPen.com’s Revealed Day Party & Artist Showcase at Indulj Restaurant and Lounge, located in the historic U Street Corridor.
These acts headlined a show offering a soundtrack of Hip-Hop, Neo-Soul and R&B. These artists that have entertained audiences in the D.C. metropolitan area and across the nation, and brought experience and talent unparalleled.
The show, which was scheduled from 3 to 9 p.m., brought together a coterie of talented young professionals, 21 and over, with an affinity for urban music, fashion and lifestyle.
Last April TheBobbyPen.com’s Revealed Official Launch Event and Artist Showcase brought out more than 400 young professionals in media, fashion, music and business, some from as far away as New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore, to enjoy a wonderful evening of musical performances, networking and a live runway show. As a result of their networking contacts, some of those in attendance have since worked together on other events in the metropolitan area and beyond.
To select opening acts for the showcase, TheBobbyPen.com held three open mic auditions at Indulj that were open to the public.
Acts were encouraged to invite their supporters to help the team select which acts would perform during the Revealed Day Party & Artist Showcase. The auditions were hosted by Sol Zahran, comedian Listen to Leon, Future Band DC, Soular Pow!er Band, and DJ AnonymousDC.
Over 30 acts came out to compete for the chance to open for RAtheMC.
Meet the Acts
RAtheMC, a D.C. native, has been nominated for MTV’s 2009 Video Music Awards Breakout Artist of the Year, featured in BET’s 2010 documentary “My Mic Sounds Nice: A Truth About Women and Hip-Hop” and featured alongside rapper Drake in Sprite’s The Spark ® National Marketing Campaign in 2010. Most recently, XXL magazine named RAtheMC one of “15 DMV Artists You Need to Know” since her appearance on season 2 of FOX’s X Factor.
Marlee in the Mixx is a fairly new act, but very popular in D.C.’s music scene. Their debut performance at the Fillmore in Silver Spring, Md. in March 2012, helped them land a gig as the opening act for Island Def Jam rapper Big K.R.I.T. The progressive band consists of front woman Marlee, The Mixx’s male vocalist, drummer, keyboard trio, lead guitar, bass guitar and percussionist. Most recently, The Washington Post described Marlee in the Mixx as “one of U Street’s best kept secrets,” August 2013.
TheBobbyPen.com has partnered with Indulj Restaurant to host all of its events. The intimate atmosphere of Indulj’s upper-level lounge, paired with Hookah provided by Skyline Hookah, made guests feel as if they were entertaining friends in the comfort of their own private man-or-woman cave. We saw a birthday party and friends reunite at this wonderful time in music.
Thank you to everyone who participated including rapper E. Hall, singer CiennaJade, Sock the Rapper and the multi-talented Gray Poupon and company. Our soundtrack between acts was provided by DJ Mr. Jones.
