TweetHowardTheatre_TheBobbyPen The Southern Hummingbird, singer Tweet, paid Washington, D.C. a long overdue visit to remind everyone that she is back!

Fresh from a recent release, Simply Tweet (February 2013,) hit the stage of the historic Howard Theatre to appease fans. In amazing voice an spirit the songstress belted fan favorites from her debut solo album Southern Hummingbird, like “Beautiful,” “Oops (Oh My)” and “Taxi.”

Watch the video clip below to hear Tweet sing “Taxi” live!

Before Tweet hit the scene as a solo artist, the Gospel trained vocalist was a member of Jodeci’s Devante Swing’s collective Swing Mob. He put together a female trio called “Sugah,” comprised of Susan Weems, Rolita White and Tweet. Well, in true sisterly fashion, Weems and White attended the show to support their long-time homegirl. Watching Tweet’s face light up as she noticed them in crowd was priceless!

Incredibly, Tweet’s band only had two days to practice. Though they couldn’t play every song the crowd requested, Tweet did an incredible job catering to her fans’ desires and even sung a few tunes a cappella. Her amazing background singers also rose to the occasion and on-the-spot rearranged their vocals to make adapting to the band.

Another amazing highlight of the show was Tweet’s crowd participation segment where she allowed fans from the audience to come on stage and sing with her. There were two vocalist in particular, a male and a female, who almost stole the show. I thought that was incredibly gracious of her to share the mic with those she’s influenced over the years.
