5 Ways to Reduce Stress & Perform At Your Best [LIST]

2018 is here and she’s been lighting a 5-alarm fire under my ass to get my ish together! Stress has crept into my life and its negative effects are surely noticed– both in the physical and emotional sense. I spent a great portion of 2017 in analysis paralysis, the colloquial term for overthinking to the point of not acting, but I’m ready to get back on the saddle.

Here are some tips I’ve been using to pull myself out of a rut and get back to kicking butt professionally and personally:

Breathe Deeply

Have you ever noticed that sometimes you forget to breathe? I know that sounds crazy, and obviously, I’m not talking about holding your breath to the point of passing out, but we live on autopilot in such a way that we don’t mindfully inhale peace and exhale the bullshit.

So, let’s work on that with this little trick. For 5 minutes, sit still and focus on breathing. With your feet flat on the floor, sit up straight close your eyes, and place your hands on your belly. Inhale, slowly through your nostrils and make note of the oxygen filling your abdomen, then your chest, then your head. Exhale through your mouth.

Psychologist Judith Tutin, Ph.D. says, “Deep breathing counters the effects of stress by slowing the heart rate and lowering blood pressure.

Sometimes I like to get a little fancy and light candles while I meditate.
