On April 25, 2013, Lauren M. Williams, founder and Executive Creative Director of TheBobbyPen.com, will officially launch her blog at a charity event at Indulj Restaurant and Lounge, located in Washington, D.C.’s historic U Street Corridor. Revealed: Official Launch Event and Artist Showcase, hosted by Ms. Williams, will showcase some of the District metropolitan area’s up-and-coming musicians, fashion designers and artists to raise funds to benefit Metro TeenAIDS, DC’s only community health organization partnering with young people to end HIV/AIDS. The event hopes to bring together music industry insiders, entrepreneurs, community leaders and local media for an evening celebrating the arts, fashion and Ms. Williams’ exciting new blog, TheBobbyPen.com.

The evening will feature performances by local artists and a fashion show, a cocktail reception where guests can mix, mingle and network and, the official introduction of TheBobbyPen.com. The blog was created by Ms. Williams, a native Washingtonian, in 2010 to serve as a platform to exalt urban lifestyle contribution to music, visual and performance art, fashion and black culture. It features interviews with entertainers in music, film, television and theater, videos of live performances and promotional spots by offering a clear, concise voice and insight on what’s happening in the creative world. With the aim to avoid gossip and regurgitated information, TheBobbyPen.com strives to offer original digital multimedia content that you won’t find anywhere else online, infusing storytelling and reporting with a unique style and voice all its own. Since its creation, TheBobbyPen.com has made incredible strides featuring industry professionals like Miguel, Kendrick Lamar, The Game, Tamar Braxton, Celebrity Stylist Olori Swank, Dwele, Raheem DeVaughn, Q Parker of 112 and The Cool Kids, to name a few.

A generous portion of proceeds will go to benefit Metro TeenAIDS, a wonderful organization that counsels young people diagnosed with HIV, distributes condoms and other contraceptives to clinics and youth centers around the city, and advocates for legislation that improves the quality of sex education in our public schools. Washington, DC has one of the highest rising rates of HIV/AIDS cases in the country. And across the nation, half of all new HIV infections occur among people under the age of 25– many if whom haven’t even been tested, therefore, aren’t receiving treatment. As a native Washingtonian, this is a cause that is near and dear to my heart, and I’d like to draw attention to organizations like Metro TeenAIDS working to combat stigma, counseling and educating toward a HIV/AIDS-free future.

I would like to thank everyone who helped make this event a success. I could not have pulled this off without the help of:

  • My business manager, Jessica Washington
  • Model Coordinator, April Miller of DC Fashion Week
  • Sponsors: Courvoisier, Westfield Wheaton

Mila & Fire have always been viewed as fashion-forward individuals, and found themselves always being asked to be a personal shopper, or to go out and find unique one-of-a-kind pieces for their friends. After graduating from college, Mila & Fire decided that sharing their passion with their peers would not only be fulfilling, but would be something that allows them to connect with other fashionistas.
