Russell Simmons‘ Hip-Hop Summit Action Network and Philanthropik chaired the second Hip-Hop Inaugural Ball hosted by television personality Lala Anthony and actor & E! News anchor Terrence  J.

On Sunday, January 20, 2013 the Harman Center for the Arts in Washington, DC housed industry stars like 2 Chainz, Meek Mill, Lance Gross, Wayne Brady and John Legend to name a few! Sponsors Heineken USA, Argyleculture, Bacardi, Global Grind and The Young, Black and Fabulous made their presence known throughout the venue.

The event was to celebrate the role Hip-Hop played in registering and mobilizing voters during the 2012 election cycle. While on the red carpet, Michael Eric Dyson echoed these sentiments and told media President Obama wouldn’t have been elected if not for the role and influence of Hip-Hop.

Lifetime Achievement honorees MC Lyte and Doug E. Fresh were honored by tribute performances from Yo-Yo, Smooth and Lil Mama. Additionally, special recognition was given to Voto Latino for galvanizing large numbers of Hispanics to vote, where actress Rosario Dawson accepted the award on behalf of the non-partisan organization she founded to bring new and diverse voices to the political process.
