Capturing a moment and sharing it on Instagram is the norm these days, whether it’s food, date night, a girl’s night out, or the infamous selfie. Sometimes a night can be captured in a bunch of pictures and rather than post them one by one, you can tile them together to post all at once, or make a collage.

By now using a collage app for your photos is nothing new, but Instagram has finally come out with one of their own, meet Layout.

Show of hands, how many of you knew about this app?

Instagram quietly rolled out Layout last week.  The app that is completely designed around it’s users sharing pictures has finally added a way to collage pictures.  But get this, it’s a standalone app not an added feature to the already popular Instagram app itself.  You don’t even have to have an Instagram account to use it.  The app itself is clean, no ads or popups driving you to other apps cluttering the experience, so that is a plus.

You can select up to 9 photos to put together into one collage (you know when just one pic isn’t going to capture that entire day or thought lol).  If you aren’t sure what kind of picture you’re going to post, there is a Faces feature that will pull up your photos with people in them..hence the name faces. If you’re an Android user you don’t have to make any decisions just yet, the app is currently only available on iOS.

But I’ve already got a photo collage app…why bother?

Honestly this is my question as well, why did it take so long for Instagram to come out with the ability to collage photos?  Why didn’t they just add the function into the app itself?  From one stance you give other people that may not be on Instagram a standalone app and they may decide to go ahead to use the actual Instagram app as well. Then on the other hand, what is the incentive for those of us who already have go to apps for the same purpose on our phones already?

What do you currently use to collage/tile your photos?  Will you download the new Layout app?
