Independent Recording Artist Eric Roberson Donates Performance to Raise Money at the Lifting Spirits: A Holiday Fundraising Benefit Concert for the Princess Mhoon Dance Institute of Silver Spring, Md.
Last Thursday, November 21, 2013 Grammy nominated, Indie recording artist Eric Roberson gave a special holiday performance for former Howard University classmate, dancer Princess Mhoon Cooper’s dance institute benefit concert.
The Lifting Spirits: A Holiday Fundraising Benefit Concert offered parents, students and supporters the opportunity to contribute money for the Princess Mhoon Dance Institute (PMDI) through a silent auction, wine & cheese reception and live show featuring the institute’s dancers, Philadelphia’s Carbon Dance Theatre and Eric Roberson.
Items auctioned included various styles of fitness dance classes, a private wine tasting from Silver Spring’s Adega Wine Cellars, signed artwork and a spa day.
The PMDI dancers range in age from 6 to 13 years old, and range in training from classical ballet to rhythmic modern dance. Institute instructor and host for the evening was 96.3 FM WHUR’s own Nikki Strong.
Roberson performed hit’s like “Walk Away”, “She” and the junior ensemble dancers accompanied Roberson’s rendition of “Picture Perfect” to add a nice touch to the event. Roberson also gathered random words from the crowd and freestyled a song “Under the Princess Mhoon” to encourage the crowd to donate right then and there. A collection box was placed in front of Roberson, and in true “church collection plate offering” fashion, he sung what sounded like a call to worship, and people brought up to the front cash and checks to help PMDI continue to grow and expand.
Many of the parents credit PMDI for their daughter’s growing sense of self-confidence and higher than average grades in school.
