Driving the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport [CAR REVIEW]

I love riding around the hottest new whips and I’ve been writing about it consistently since last June. I’m excited to share this review of the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport mainly because it exceeded my expectations on so many levels.

From the style of the body to its quick pick up when you mash the gas; the sexy cherry red paint, to the poppin’ sunroof and banging sound system all won me over and made my road trip from DC to Philly a mobile party.

The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is the brand’s ultimate crossover. This chic hatchback is not your mother’s station wagon. This hybrid is the best of both worlds, merging the size and comfort of an SUV with the speed and agility of a sports car!

mitsubishi-outlander-paddle-shifters-the-bobby-penOk, the first thing I noticed about this whip is the gears behind the steering wheel. They’re called paddle shifters, and they made me feel like I was in a video game! On the open road, I’d use the lever on the right to pick up speed in order to switch lanes, and then I’d tap the left to slow down again. The best of both worlds: I felt safe, but I also felt in control.

Another highlight of the Outlander is the huge sunroof! There is no shortage of sunlight and fresh air for all passengers in the cabin with the beautiful power glass sunroof with tilt & slide. Simply activate with the one-touch open/close switch.

Ride handling on the Outlander is out of this world thanks to the Mitsubishi Electric Power Steering technology. Efficient calibration creates more accurate handling for smoother steering and a safer ride.

While it was only me and one my homie on this trip, the Outlander comfortably seats 7 passengers. The second row features a 60/40 split to help passengers get in and out comfortably but also allows you to lay down the seat to fit larger items in the trunk.

What’s a car party without music? Well, Mitsubishi has figured out how to maximize their banging sound system with sound-isolating windshield glass for the best in-car acoustics so tune in and turn up!

Now that we’ve talked about all the fun, let’s get to the safety features. The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport has plenty of features to keep you and yours safe, as well as the other drivers on the road. There are seven airbags throughout the cabin including knee airbags for the driver.

The Forward Collision Mitigation system is a radar that helps drivers reduce the chance of a front collision. The system will beep and a red light will blink to let you know that you’re too close to something in front of you, and will then automatically trigger the emergency brakes to slow you down.

The rearview camera is your eyes in the back of your head that your mama used to claim to have. Prevent backing into anything and make parking a lot easier with this nifty feature in your brand new Outlander.

Need help getting around? The 7-inch display monitor is just big enough to keep all of your digital, audio, and navigation functions front and center. Never miss a turn again.

All-in-all I really enjoyed driving this crossover and would totally consider it for a new car due to its sports feel, space and amazing steering handling.
