Superior Worx Manufacturing Company launched in 2008 by Native Washingtonian Rolando “Ro” Sebina-Bustamante.The clothing line, now available at national retailer Sports Zone, draws from his strong cultural identity.
He took the childhood pain of being teased for what he would wear to school, due to a lack of resources, and launched his first designer venture, Bustamante Design Company, in 1999. Bustamante Design produced custom hand-sewn jerseys and dress shirts. This was short lived as the “throwback” trend in urban culture died down, so he realized he needed to revamp while on vacation in Cancun.

Superior Worx is heritage brand, drawing influence from Ro’s diverse ethnic background as well. He includes nuanced details in his designs such as his family name, a logo merging “X” and “V” to represent the year his mother was born in Roman numerals, or the “1763“ found on many items — the street address of the American home where he and his family lived.
Ro says these details remind him to never forget his humble beginnings and take honor in his journey.
The three goals of Superior Worx are Originality, Quality and the Pursuit of Greatness in Premium Dry Goods. Ro draws influence from “inner city struggle” and “Uptown aspirations” like skateboarding, motorcycles, spray paint cans, vintage sneakers and the rise of the urban middle class.
His vision is to provide quality over quantity by creating exclusive products, paying attention to construction, fit and materials rather than trends and quick and cheap production.
