Born and raised in Camp Springs, Md., local fashion designer Brian, wants to single-handedly bringing the M to the foreground of the DMV with his street wear turned, urban chic line; renée Çabaçtnoh (pronounced Re-Neè Se-bas-tian.) With it’s bold colors and prints, its safe to say that this brand represents “confidence” for both men and women.

No stranger to hard work, Brian toyed around with fashion and design throughout his grade-school years. It wasn’t until a pivotal moment after college when he took a leap of faith on a clothing line that he named for his second daughter. Renée, his daughter’s middle name and the Russian spelling of the name Sebastian; a name that grew on him after watching the 1999’s drama, Cruel Intentions starring Ryan Phillippe.
“When I first started I was mainly doing t-shirts and hoodies, then jackets. A year or two into it, it was time to add something else,” says Brian. Today, renée Çabaçtnoh is a versatile brand offering a range of jackets, t-shirts, hats, and accessories; a little something for everyone. Initially launched in 2003, two years later that the brand really began to expand and explode onto the DMV scene.

Unlike many major cities, the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area, playfully known as the DMV, is a tough city to bring new fashion. Most people who buy into urban brands dress within the trend; many don’t choose to step outside of the box. As a creative observer, Brian understands this flaw and decided to capitalize on going against the grain and stepping out on individuality. He says, “When I’m in New York, people wear what ever they want to wear, I love it out there. People here [DMV] are scared to be original.” His plan of attack on hipsters who are afraid to be original: adaptation.

“You have to adapt to the different cultures of people. Once you figure that out, you can put out a product that 50 percent of the people will like,” he says. “It doesn’t matter who comes through the door, I can outfit you. A lot of brands can’t do that.”
With the intention to cater to everyone from the high school student to the young professional, renée Çabaçtnoh is a one-man show working hard to keep the brand in rotation. Standing on quality, consistency, and commitment to the brand Brian says, “People see consistency and accept what you’re doing and buy into what you’re selling.” By keeping his brand fresh and new, developing new concepts and ideas daily, he isn’t worried about what others are doing.
“A lot of people I see mess up because they’re always trying to be like everybody else instead of having an original idea and adapting to what’s going on.”
From a young age, Brian knew that his passion was in his creativity and his hustler mentality. From his African medallions in elementary school to his hand-painted t-shirts in high school, it didn’t take long for him to find his niche. The creativity came easy it was the business knowledge that he had to navigate on his own. Affirming that renée Çabaçtnoh is a one-man wrecking team, Brain scoffs at other “brands” that haven’t reached his level of success with a crew of 5 or 6 people.
Brian remembers having to piece together outfits for school from the thrift store, a place his South Carolina bred mother had no problem taking her son for clothes. “From that I learned how to put different stuff together. How to take something odd and put it with something simple, and make it look like something,” he says. “So drawing back on that, when I’m cutting something up, I’m looking at different colors and textures. It’s kind of like art class.”
“Now that I’m older, I can appreciate the thrift store but when I was younger… heck naw!”

Despite all the hometown notoriety, renée Çabaçtnoh hadn’t really made it worldwide until the brand partnered with Fox’s ‘The X Factor’ contestant, David Correy.

Correy, a Maryland transplant from Brazil, was introduced to Brian through mutual friends. Their strong passion for doing what they love and Maryland roots, are what essentially bonded this partnership and has fostered it’s growth.

“I’ve known David for 2 years. We met through a mutual friend of my cousin and one night we went to a show in Adams Morgan, I gave him a bracelet. After that, I brought him to the shop and he fell in love with all the things I was doing.” Once that close bond began, they wasted no time incorporating the renée Çabaçtnoh brand to David Correy’s ‘Urban Rock’ feel. In hindsight, Correy was the perfect match for this out-of-the-box brand and definitely rocks it with the confidence and, dare I say, swag necessary.

Unfortunately for ‘The X Factor’ fans, Correy was eliminated on the November 1st show. Despite that outcome, there is more work to be done between Correy and Brian as far as renée Çabaçtnoh is concerned. Although Correy might not be on your TV once a week anymore, the brand that he’s helping to build will be see again soon.

With the odds stacked against him, Brian has the ‘by any means necessary’ approach to making his brand a household name. renée Çabaçtnoh has the potential to be in every closet from Ben’s Chili Bowl to the Golden Gate Bridge. Never one to forget where it started, Brian is building his brand with Maryland in mind and plans to take his hometown with him where ever he goes. “I love my job. I love being creative. I love styling people. This is me. There is no representation out here in Maryland. Everybody wants to claim DC. My brand is from Maryland, no disrespect to anyone.”
Instilled with great values, a strong foundation, and an out-of-this-world work ethic, renée Çabaçtnoh will take on the fashion world and force the masses to think outside of the box. With it’s flare for colors, neon’s, and prints it is clear that the vision is individuality and confidence with it’s owner, founder, and designer wearing the criteria proudly.

renée Çabaçtnoh is the brand that will kick down the doors of the fashion world and demand respect. For now, Brian continues to grow his brand and awaits the perfect moment to take everything to the next level.
