Celebrate Black History month by stepping out this weekend to see the highly anticipated, most talked-about movie the year. That’s right. Black Panther is guaranteed to break the box office and make history this weekend!

Not only were the fashion choices on the Hollywood red carpet premiere EPIC, but the all-star African American cast hopes Black Panther will not only affect viewers on-screen but off-screen as well. The film is set to hit theaters today, Friday, February 16th and has already received a standing ovation at the Hollywood premiere.

Well unless you’ve been living under a rock, Black Panther is the first and only Marvel-based superhero/action film with an all-black superhero cast.

Also, the story takes place in Africa, which will educate viewers on the beautiful regal culture of the continent. Chadwick Boseman, who stars as Black Panther returns to Wakanda, a fictional nation in Africa to avenge his father’s death and reign as new king.

Black Panther franchise has already made an impact on black culture. The original Marvel comic was released in the 1960s, during the civil rights movement. Most African Americans were not portrayed as “superheroes”, regal, or any positive limelight during that period.

I hope that after watching this movie, African Americans will realize their beauty and potential to do or become a successful individual in life regardless of biased statistics, hatred, racism, and self-doubt. To finally be seen as powerful, as royalty, as Kings and Queens. Not just a slave, “gangster”, stripper, etc. This film will break the mold and stereotypes for future generations.

Pre-sale tickets have already sold out at numerous theaters across the country, and even broken Fandango’s record for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. School teachers are even including the movie in lesson plans and planned group trips to see the film.

Kendrick Lamar’s executive-produced soundtrack, Black Panther: The Album, is receiving critical acclaim and streaming toward a no. 1 debut, according to Billboard. The overwhelming response and love from fans have managed to cause the cast to quickly realize what an impact this film will make.

Actor Michael B. Jordan told CNN “the movie is super important and impactful for our culture moving forward. It’s humbling and very surreal that this is a major introduction, almost a reintroduction of black fantasy, sci-fi, mythology, for the generation growing up,” Jordan said.

“I can’t wait for Halloween to see everyone dressing up as the Dora Milaje– the all-female special forces in the film, Black Panther and Killmonger– the supervillain Jordan portrays.”

Director Matthew A. Cherry tweeted:

So, are you joining the movement this weekend? Have you seen Black Panther?
