DC’s premiere sneaker boutique Palace 5ive hosted The Board Administration’s next-up rapper Black Cobain’s mixtape release party. The17-track Young Gifted and Black is Cobain’s sophomore EP and the proud rapper was happy to share his story of hard work and dedication. 

Background sounds were spun by The Board’s own DJ Eskada, and other local artists like Phil Ade, Raheem Devaughn, Tabi Bonney and Wale were in attendance to show support. Tabi Bonney told me, “When I was starting out there was no movement. The DMV is a movement.” 

The sneaker boutique was set-up with two tables on each side, the first featured quesadillas, chicken wings, and taquitos from Austin Grill, the second soul food dishes from Marvelous Marvels. At the register were tasty treats from Georgetown Cupcake and on platters were Kahlua Liqueur infused cupcakes from Enjoi Cupcakes. The liquor of choice for the evening was Firefly sweet tea vodka. Producer Tone P told me he’d been finger-licking all night due to all the great food served. All-in-all it was a very well organized event and everyone was approachable and friendly.
