Bobby Pen is one of the nation’s fastest-growing entertainment news & lifestyle media brands in the digital space and television. Bobby Pen’s mission is to highlight the entertainment industry’s positive contributions made to the contemporary, urban living experience.

My peers and supporters– or #PenPalz as I like to call them –have nominated and voted for me to win DMV 30 Under 30 and Titan Arts Awards’ Blogger of the Year in 2015, and these honors mean a lot. They are concrete evidence that my passion for media has made a significant impact on my community, and for that I am grateful.

Over the years I have interviewed a number of personalities including Golden Globe nominated-actor David Oyelowo, Grammy Award winning-artists Kendrick Lamar and Luke James, film director Gina Prince-Bythewood, journalist Roland Martin, Reality TV Star Tamar Braxton and actress Gabrielle Union.

I recently joined WMDE-TV as a host for music variety show, “Sounds of Midtown.” My segment will debut December 2015. WMDE-TV airs in markets in Washington, D.C., Salisbury & Baltimore, Md. and Dover, DE over Xfinity Comcast, Verizon Fios, DISH and DirecTV during prime time hours in both Standard and High Definition.

For the past three years, Bobby Pen has consistently positioned TheBobbyPen.com as a go-to lifestyle authority with regular television appearances on ABC 20/20, BBC News, TVOne’s NewsOne Now, Centric and ABC7. I also have a monthly residency offering pop-culture commentary on FOX’s TMZ Live.

TheBobbyPen.com has contributed to publications like The Source, WUSA9.com, RadioOne DC’s Majic 102.3 and WKYS 93.9, Examiner.com, The JasmineBrand and HOT97 DJ Enuff’s ThatsEnuff.com.

Recently, Bobby Pen has served as red carpet correspondent at events like the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, SXSW, MTV Woody Awards and 2015 BET Awards.

Bobby Pen has independently crafted a progressive career in digital media based on passion and persistence.

Currently R1 Online Editor with Radio One St. Louis, Bobby Pen is responsible for creating, managing and marketing digital content for Hot 104.1 and 95.5 The Lou. How’d she land this major opportunity? With a Tweet.

Developing an affinity for magazines, social media and arts & entertainment at an early age, the Washington, D.C. native set a goal to write for a publication that would literally pay her to be herself.

Equipped with the latest training in audio/video, website design, photography and writing for web, Bobby Pen was excited to enter the world of media upon graduation from Temple University in 2010.

Like many millennials during the “Great Recession,” she struggled to find employment in her chosen career field. After one too many rejection letters, the enterprising multimedia journalist decided to take matters into her own hands in order to develop the experience potential employers said she lacked.

Both fueled by frustration and fierce resolve, she launched Lifestyle & Entertainment website TheBobbyPen.com. A site which aims to exalt the urban experience, each post praising urban lifestyle contributions to music, the arts, fashion and cultural events.

A year into the digital project, she decided to go back to school and completed the Interactive Journalism Master’s Program at American University in 2013. While in school, Bobby Pen successfully scaled her site, produced several events and secured advertising and endorsements from brands like Courvoisier and General Motors.

Bobby Pen has been red carpet correspondent at events like the BET Awards, Nickelodeon Halo Awards, MTV Woodies Awards and Super Bowl.

Celebrities including rappers Snoop Dogg and P. Diddy, TV Host Adrienne Bailon, actors Don Cheadle and David Oyelowo, recording artists Monica and Kirk Franklin, CNN reporter Don Lemon, and Hip-Hop pioneer Doug E. Fresh have all talked with TheBobbyPen.com. These exclusive interviews have been sourced by publications like Washington Post, The Source, Baller Alert and The Shade Room.

Focused on branding, Bobby Pen positioned herself as a go-to lifestyle authority with regular television appearances on ABC 20/20, TMZ, BBC News and TVOne’s NewsOne Now.

In 2015, Bobby Pen’s peers and supporters known as #PenPalz voted her D.C.’s Top 30 Under 30 Young Professionals and Titan Arts Awards’ Blogger of the Year. These honors mean the most as they are concrete evidence that passion for media has made a significant impact on the community around her.

Due to a personal setback early 2016, Bobby Pen was forced out of her comfort zone, moved 1300 miles away from home and propelled to her dream job with R1 digital, all from a tweet. Bobby Pen’s story is one of determination, although it’s only the beginning.
