The 60s was a decade filled with groovy vibes and peace signs. It’s only natural that eyes played a key role with these inspired looks. By piecing lashes together in defined clumps, you get a doe eyed look, a signature beauty look from this period. To one up this look, adding a bold cat eye or dramatic cut crease can make any person ready to unleash their inner gogo dancer!

Lash And Liner Tutorial

To achieve this 60s inspired lash look follow these easy steps:

  • First base you lids with eye primer.
  • Next, grab an eye-shadow one shade lighter than your complexion just to neutralize and brighten the lid area.Smashbox’s double exposure palette is perfect for this.
    • Pro Tip: Don’t have an eye-shadow that’s a shade lighter than your complexion? Have no fear, just grab your under eye concealer and apply to your lids. Just be sure to set it with powder to avoid it moving on the skin.
  • Now grab your pencil eyeliner in the color of your choice and tight line, or draw on your waterline, around your eye. I suggest Smashbox Always Sharp in Sumatra because of its pointed tip.
  • Taking that same pencil we are now going make a bold line right at the lash line on the upper lid.
  • Get your Twiggy style lashes and apply them to the line we just created. I love using Sephora Collection Eyelashes in Flair or Minx for achieving this lash look.
  • Finish this look by grabbing a liquid liner in the same color as the pencil and apply the liner where your lid and false lashes meet to hide the lash line. I love using Stila’sLiqiud Liner in Extreme Black for this step.
    • Pro Tip: Want to take this look to the next level? Take the pencil liner used earlier and make a bold line at the lower lash line. Get your blending brush and gently smoke out the color to achieve a look similar to the picture above on the right.

 Dramatic Cut Crease

Edie Sedwick, Audrey Hepburn, and Twiggy have all donned this look to make it become iconic. It’s no wonder couture designers are looking to retro cues to help make their collections more timeless. This dramatic look helps to make your crease more prominent, giving you the appearance of wider eyes. I like to think of it as contouring for your eye lids. Eyes shapes that lack a crease or have a hidden crease can use this look to give their eyes more definition.

Cut Crease Tutorial

  • Start with your eye primer and a shimmer eye-shadow. I like to use Kitten from Stila.
  • Sketch in a crease line with your choice of eyeliner.Smashbox Always Sharp in Sumatra is a great liner to use for this step.
    • Pro Tip: Take your time matching the line from your crease to the line coming from your waterline (see photo below). Trust me this look takes patience, but once perfected this may be your new go to look. If you need added assistance, take a piece of scotch tape and place it from the tip of your brow to your water line. Use it as a guide to prevent the line from looking shaky. Now, make the line thicker towards the waterline or outer corner, and use less pressure toward the crease or inner corner to make the liner thinner and not as heavy. Don’t forget to remove the tape when you’re done!

  • Buff the crease line out with a shader brush gently. Blend upwards towards your outer corner. You want the waterline line to stay sharp, but if you make it a little messy, no worries, you can clean it up at the end.
  • Grab a small shadow brush and directly above your crease line add an eye-shadow color of your choice. Make sure it’s much darker in color compared to the color on your lid. Blend further toward the inner corner. This would be the time to go in with Kitten again on the lids just to define the color difference.

  • Create a bold line by grabbing your favorite liquid liner and create a cat eye. Try using Stila’s Stay All Day Liquid Liner in Extreme Black.
  • Take that second eye shadow color some of your crease color underneath the lower lashline.
  • Add both top and bottom lashes to this look and you will be ready for your close up in 60s style.

With the eyes dramatically played up, complexion and lips have to create a balance. That dewy, fresh face complexion and neutral, glossy lip were showcased more prominently during this decade. Before this time period, bold red lips and full coverage foundations were the only options. Everyone wanted too look like and be their favorite celebrities, take Marilyn Monroe for example. The 60s was a time people truly started to love the skin they were in . We see this resurgence now on the runway. Several fashion houses have taken these cues from the past, and are now focusing on smooth, glowing skin and neutral, glossy lips. Follow my skincare tips from my previous post to keep your skin looking flawless. My rule in makeup, always treat your skin well and your skin will always look its best.

Fresh Face And Nude Lip Tutorial

This tutorial will literally take you no more than 10 mins to do. This will honestly change your makeup routine:

  • First grab a BB or CC cream to even your complexion. I suggest using Smashbox BB or CC cream and applying it with Beauty Blender. This will help with to preventing too much product sitting in one place, as well as, ensuring that you get even coverage.
  • Next grab your favorite nude lipstick or balm and add the color to your lips. You guys should know by now that Givenchy’s Le Rouge in 101 is my favorite but, here are two products that are bit more affordable and have a glossy finish: Soap and Glory’s Sexy Mother Pucker in Half Naked or Fresh’s Lip Treatment in Honey.
  • Finally grab a setting spray, like Make Up For Ever’s Mist and Fix and you’re ready to walk out the door.

As this year’s Spring/ Summer 2015 Fashion Weeks come to a close, we see that fashion has a habit of repeating itself. With top fashion houses giving these looks a modern take, I feel some of these retro styles will have influences on everyone by this summer. So get ahead of the fashion curve and start practicing those cut creases now!
